Protection Foundations Programme

The Protection Foundations Programme is designed to develop controlled protection skills through structure, obedience and handler-led control.

This is not aggression-based training. It is a disciplined, ethical approach to protection work, where control, stability and predictability are prioritised at every stage.

Protection training is not suitable for all dogs. All applicants must complete an Initial Training Assessment to determine suitability before any bite development begins. Dogs must demonstrate appropriate temperament, emotional stability and a solid foundation of obedience.

Protection Foundations Programme Overview

Protection work requires far more than bite development. It demands control, structure and a clear understanding between dog and handler.

This programme focuses on developing protection skills that are safe, predictable and fully controlled. Every stage of training is built on obedience, stability and strict handling protocols to ensure the dog remains responsive and manageable at all times.

  • This programme is designed for owners seeking legitimate, structured protection training delivered to a professional standard.

It is suitable for dogs with a stable temperament, clear-headed behaviour and existing obedience foundations. The programme is intended for handlers who are committed to maintaining strict control and following safety-led training protocols.

It is not suitable for dogs displaying uncontrolled aggression or instability.

  • Through structured progression, you will develop controlled bite work alongside reliable obedience and handler control.

The programme focuses on creating a clear on/off switch, ensuring the dog can engage in protection work when required while remaining calm, responsive and manageable in everyday situations. You will gain confidence in handling, clear communication and the ability to maintain control under pressure.

  • The Protection Foundations Programme consists of ten private one-to-one sessions delivered on a weekly basis.

Each session lasts approximately 60 minutes and focuses on controlled bite development, obedience under pressure and strict handling protocols. Training is conducted in controlled environments to ensure safety, progression and consistency throughout the programme.

  • The Protection Foundations Programme is a structured training pathway with a total investment of £1,500.

All clients must complete an Initial Training Assessment prior to acceptance. Suitability is confirmed during assessment to ensure the dog meets the required behavioural and training criteria.

Frequently Asked Questions

Protection training is often misunderstood and requires a high level of responsibility, control and commitment.

The following questions are designed to provide clarity on how the programme works, what is required from both dog and handler, and how we ensure safe, ethical and controlled training outcomes.

  • No. Protection training is delivered through a structured programme to ensure safe progression and consistent development.

Bite work and protection skills must be introduced and developed in stages, with each phase building on obedience, control and stability. One-off sessions do not provide the continuity or structure required to train safely or responsibly.

  • The assessment is essential to determine whether a dog is suitable for protection work.

Not all dogs have the correct temperament, stability or obedience level required for this type of training. The assessment allows us to evaluate control, responsiveness and behavioural traits to ensure the dog can safely participate in structured bite development.

  • No. Protection training is based on control, not aggression.

The goal is to develop a dog that can perform specific tasks under direction while remaining stable, predictable and responsive at all times. Uncontrolled aggression is not trained or encouraged and would make a dog unsuitable for this programme.

  • Dogs displaying uncontrolled aggression, instability or poor impulse control are not suitable for protection training.

In these cases, the focus would shift towards behavioural work to address underlying issues before any consideration of protection training. Safety and suitability are always prioritised.

  • A high level of commitment is required. Protection training relies heavily on handler consistency, control and understanding of the process.

Owners must be prepared to follow strict handling protocols, maintain obedience standards and apply guidance consistently outside of sessions. The quality of results is directly influenced by the handler’s level of involvement and discipline.

  • Programme fees are non-refundable. This reflects the structured nature of the programme and ensures commitment to a process that prioritises safety, control and responsible training.
